Working Together Respectfully: Introducing Our New Communications Charter

Working Together Respectfully

Exceed Academies Trust has introduced a new Social Media and Respectful Communications Charter, bringing together our shared expectations for positive, respectful and constructive communication across our school communities.

Working Together Respectfully

Positive relationships between families and schools make an important contribution to the wellbeing and success of children.

We want parents and carers to feel confident communicating with their child's school, whether that is to ask a question, share information, celebrate something positive or raise a concern.

Our new Social Media and Respectful Communications Charter provides a clear and consistent framework for respectful communication both online and offline. It brings together expectations around constructive communication, responsible social media use, privacy and dignity, while also setting out what parents and carers can expect in return from our schools.

A shared commitment

Working together positively

Respectful communication works both ways. The Charter sets out both the expectations we ask families to support and the commitments our schools make to parents and carers.

We ask parents and carers to
  • Communicate respectfully when discussing the school, its pupils, families or staff.
  • Raise concerns directly with the school through appropriate communication and complaints procedures.
  • Work with school leaders to seek constructive resolutions to concerns.
  • Respect the privacy, dignity and confidentiality of pupils, families and staff.
In return, our schools will
  • Treat parents and carers with courtesy, fairness and respect.
  • Listen to concerns without prejudice.
  • Follow published policies and procedures.
  • Communicate professionally and transparently.
  • Seek to resolve concerns promptly and constructively.
Communicating responsibly online

Thinking about the impact of what we share

Social media can be a valuable way to share information, celebrate achievements and communicate with others, but online content can also be shared widely and quickly.

The Charter asks parents and carers to consider the potential impact of online communication on children, families, staff and the wider school community.

It also recognises the increasing use of artificial intelligence. Where AI tools are used to draft communications or social media content, parents and carers remain responsible for ensuring that the information shared is accurate, respectful and appropriate.
