EAL Self Evaluation: On Request

📝 EAL Needs Assessment

A strategic review to strengthen EAL provision and improve outcomes

The EAL Needs Assessment provides schools with a comprehensive, evidence-informed evaluation of their provision for pupils using English as an Additional Language (EAL).

Working collaboratively with a Licensed Practitioner, the process helps schools identify strengths, pinpoint areas for development and establish clear, achievable priorities for improvement.

🔍 Areas of Focus

The assessment considers six key areas:

  • Leadership & Management of EAL provision
  • Resourcing & Funding
  • Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
  • Pupil Induction, Assessment, Placement & Progress Monitoring
  • Teaching, Learning & the Curriculum
  • School Environment, Attitudes & Ethos

🤝 A Collaborative Approach

The process begins with the school completing a self-assessment and submitting supporting evidence ahead of the visit.

A Licensed Practitioner then undertakes a one-day school visit, working alongside staff to explore agreed areas of provision through:

  • Learning walks and observations
  • Meetings and staff focus groups
  • Review of pupil data and assessment information
  • Examination of relevant school documentation and evidence

🚀 From Evaluation to Action

The visit concludes with an agreed implementation plan, identifying realistic and prioritised next steps for the school.

The plan may include recommendations for:

CPD | Guidance | Resources | Targeted interventions | Strategic development

The aim is not simply to evaluate provision, but to provide schools with practical, achievable actions that lead to sustainable improvement and better outcomes for EAL learners.
